Specifically, they say you should set your thermostat to 78 degrees while you’re home.
Spending the day out? Turn that thermostat up 7 degrees to 85.
Then, when you finally hit the hay, the federal program recommends setting your thermostat to 82 degrees.”

It might be unusual to see such a high number since room temperature is generally considered 70 degrees. However, in order to put a little less strain on your wallet a setting of 8-10 degrees higher is acceptable. You might not feel as cool as you’d like, but the energy bill for that month should be much lower than if you have your AC cranked on high all the time.
